Introduction

Kakinada is the 6^th largest city of Andhra Pradesh, India and lies on the coast of Bay of Bengal. Kakinada had been selected as a city to be developed as Smart City in Round 1 of Smart City challenge. The city authorities always intended to improve the quality and efficiency of services for the seven hundred thousand people. Kakinada Smart City Corporation Limited (KSCCL) came into being in order to provide more benefits and improve the quality of life for the citizens.

The challenge

Smart City mission was a new concept and the Kakinada Municipality wanted to take the challenge in order to make the city a viable place to live and also to improve the quality of life for the citizens. The city wanted to achieve all of this by being cost effective but having the best smart city solutions around.
